There's actually a lot of jp light novels where the mc isn't the usual soyboy, the only thing I don't understand is why are all the translated ones have this trope (virgins). I'm thinking from the author's perspective, it might make sense to go for this trope because of two reasons:1.) audience are more likely to feel pity for the mc, like "I'm having a tough time, so I don't want the mc to have too much of a good time too" or for audience demographic is probably not having sex (jp seems to be having this problem lately) so they include that.2.) to clearly demarcate a line so that this work is unarguably SFW content, which means there's a higher chance it'll be picked up by a publisher. When I say there's a lot, it's because there's a lot of r18 light novels, just think of the usual tropes but with sex. But it seems they're not being picked up.
